Migongo Films is the work of Aaron Koch an award winning filmmaker based in Belfast.

Aaron has been fortunate to travel the world doing what he loves and to date has produced films in 22 different countries across Europe, Asia, South America and Africa.

This experience has made him a very adaptable filmmaker whose creative talents as a director, camera operator, editor and motion graphics artist have turned Migongo Films into a one-stop shop for all your video project needs.

As an independent filmmaker Aaron prides himself on the cinematic quality of his work and the cultural sensitivity demonstrated to everyone that works with him.

After 13 years living in England, in 2017 Aaron returned with his young family (and a peculiar accent) to his native Belfast, which is now the basecamp of all his filmmaking exploits both internationally and across the UK.

The Migongo Story

“In February 2010 I travelled to the Meru District of Kenya tasked with making a charity film. I was warmly welcomed into the community of Tharaka and humbled to be presented with numerous gifts from some of the materially poorest people I had ever met. As if this wasn’t moving enough, I was also given a local name, appointed to a father in the community and officially welcomed into ‘the Tharaka family’.

So now in Tharaka I am known as M’TA MIGONGO which they explained means ‘Man of the Nations’. The name MIGONGO therefore has personally significance to my own journey and was the obvious choice when deciding upon a brand for my work.”
